APPOINTMENT TO THE POST OF CHAIRPERSON, TAMIL NADU
ELECTRICITY REGULATORY COMMISSION- TIME EXTENSION FOR
RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS.
Applications are invited from the eligible persons for appointment to
the post of Chairperson of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory
Commission.
Section 84 (1) of the Electricity Act, 2003 provides as follows:
Qualifications for appointment of Chairperson of State
Commission: The Chairperson of the State Commission shall be a person
of ability, integrity and standing who have adequate knowledge of, and
have shown capacity in dealing with problems relating to Engineering,
Finance, Commerce, Economics, Law or Management.
In terms of section 89(1) of the Electricity Act, 2003, the Chairperson
shall hold the post for a term of 5 (five) years from the date he/she joins
the office or till he/she attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier and
that as per section 84(3) of the said Act, the Chairperson shall not hold any
other office during this period. In this regard, the Term of office and
conditions of service of Chairperson are governed by section 89 of the
said Act.
The salary, allowance and other terms and conditions of service of
the Chairperson shall be governed by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory
Commission (Salary, Allowances and conditions of Service of the
Chairperson and other Members etc.) Rules, 2004 as amended from time
to time.
A person having any financial or other interest that is likely to affect
prejudicially his/her function as a Chairperson of the Commission is not
eligible.
Applications were earlier invited from 16.07.2024 to 31.07.2024 upto
06.00 p.m. The time limit for submission is now extended from 03.08.2024
and upto 6.00 p.m. on 16.08.2024.

Executives in Government and its Undertakings will be required to
forward their applications through proper channel or submit ‘No Objection
Certificate’ from their Employer along with two copies of CVs/dossiers and
Annual Confidential Reports (ACRS) covering a period of last 5 (five) years.
