Applications are invited from the eligible persons for appointment to the
post of Member (Legal) of the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory Commission.
Section 84 (1) of the Electricity Act, 2003 provides as follows:
Qualifications for appointment of Member (Legal) of State
Commission: The Member (Legal) of the State Commission shall be a person
of ability, integrity and standing who have adequate knowledge of, and have
shown capacity in dealing with problems relating to law.
In terms of section 89(1) of the Electricity Act, 2003, the Member (Legal)
shall hold the post for a term of 5 (five) years from the date he/she joins the
office or till he/she attains the age of 65 years, whichever is earlier and that as
per section 84(3) of the said Act, the Member (Legal) shall not hold any other
office during this period. In this regard, the Term of office and conditions of
service of Member (Legal) are governed by section 89 of the said Act.
The salary, allowance and other terms and conditions of service of the
Member (Legal) shall be governed by the Tamil Nadu Electricity Regulatory
Commission (Salary, Allowances and conditions of Service of the Chairperson
and other Members etc.) Rules, 2004 as amended from time to time.
A person having any financial or other interest that is likely to affect
prejudicially his/her function as a Member (Legal) of the Commission is not
eligible.
