ONLINE applications are invited from eligible candidates for engagement as
Apprentices for imparting training under the Apprentices Act, 1961 in the designated trades at various Divisions/Workshops/Units in the jurisdiction of Southern Railway. Candidates residing in the following locations/areas falling within the Geographical Jurisdiction of Southern Railway alone are eligible to apply.

  1. Whole State of Tamil Nadu
  2. Whole Union Territory of Puducherry
  3. Whole State of Kerala
  4. Whole Union Territories of Andaman & Nicobar and Lakshadweep Islands
  5. ONLY the two districts of Andhra Pradesh,namely, SPSR Nellore and Chittoor.
  6. ONLY one district of Karnataka, namely, Dakshina Kannada.
    Applications complete in all respects should be submitted ONLINE till the closing date, by

NOTE:
i) This notification is purely for giving Apprenticeship training and not for employment. There
is NO GUARANTEE OF EMPLOYMENT and the contract of apprenticeship will be
terminated on completion training. However, 20% of the vacancies in case of Direct
recruitment to post in Level 1 may be filled giving preference to Course completed act
apprentices (CCAAs) trained in railway establishments and possessing National
Apprenticeship Certificate (NAC).
ii) All communication from Carriage Works, Perambur will be sent through SMS or e-mail
only. All SMS communications will be through National Informatics Centre with display ID-
“NICSMS” and all e-mails will be sent from “[email protected]” only. All the

iii) Candidates are advised to provide their active mobile number and valid e-mail ID in
ONLNE application and keep them active throughout the selection process. All the
communications sent through the aforesaid modes will be treated as deemed to have been
read by the applicants. Administration will not be responsible for non-receipt of
communication due to change in mobile number or e-mail ID and applicants are advised to
frequently monitor aforesaid modes of communication.

Apprentices will be engaged in the following trades, the slots
available in various trades with communal break up in Carriage& Wagon Works, Loco
Works, Electrical Workshop, Railway Hospital/Perambur and Chennai Division are
tabulated below for the information of candidates.

Fresher Category:-

Fitter, Painter & Welder Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum
of 50% aggregate marks) under 10, +2 System of
education or its equivalent

Medical Laboratory Technician
(Radiology, Pathology, Cardiology )

Should have passed 12th Class (with a minimum
of 50% aggregate marks) under 10, +2 system of
education with Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Ex.ITI Category:-

Fitter, Machinist, MMV, Turner,
Diesel Mechanic, Carpenter,
Painter, Welder(G&E), Wireman,
Advance Welder & R&AC

Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of
50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of
education and ITI course in the relevant trade in
Government recognized ITI

Electrician Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of
50% aggregate marks)under 10 +2 System of
education with Science as one of the subjects or its
equivalent and ITI course in the relevant trade in
Government recognized ITI

Electronics Mechanic Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of
50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of
education with Science (Physics and Chemistry)
and Mathematics or its equivalent and ITI
course in the relevant trade in Government
recognized ITI

PASAA Should have passed 10th Class (with a minimum of
50% aggregate marks) under 10 +2 System of
education & National Trade Certificate issued by
National Council for Vocational Training in
“Computer Operator and Programming
Assistant”

Note: i) Minimum 50% marks in X std is not applicable for SC/ST/PwBD Candidates.
ii) Course Completed Act Apprentices, Engineering Graduate or Diploma Holder or
Vocational Certificate holder who had training or job experience for a period one
year or more, after the attainment of these qualifications are NOT eligible for being
engaged as trade apprentice under the Act Apprentice Rules 1992.

RATE OF STIPEND:-

Fresher’s – X std Rs.6000/- (per month)

Fresher’s – 12thstd Rs.7000/- (per month)

Ex-ITI Rs.7000/- (per month)

AGE LIMIT (as on date of notification):
i) The candidates should have completed 15 years of age and should NOT have
completed 22/24 years for Freshers/Ex-ITI, MLT respectively.
ii) The Upper age is relaxable upto 3 years for OBC, 5 years for SC/ST candidates
and 10 Years for Person with Benchmark Disability (PwBD).

MODE OF ENGAGEMENT:
The selection will be on the basis of Merit List prepared in respect of all the eligible
candidates who apply against the Notification. The Merit List will be prepared by the
Committee nominated for this purpose by following the procedure mentioned as under:
a) Fresher Category :- Marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted for 200 and
merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks duly ensuring Minimum 50% in
aggregate marks in Matriculation.
b) Ex.ITI :- Marks obtained in Matriculation will be converted to 100 marks ( duly
ensuring Minimum 50% marks in aggregate) + ITI marks duly converted to 100. Total
marks put together will be calculated for 200 marks and merit list will be drawn based
on the converted marks giving equal weight age to both.
c) MLT :- Marks obtained in Higher Secondary (with Physics, Chemistry, Maths & Biology)
will be converted for 200 and merit list will be drawn based on the converted marks
duly ensuring Minimum 50% in aggregate marks in Matriculation.

In case of two candidates having the same marks, the older candidate will be preferred.
In case the dates of birth are also same, then the candidate who has passed
Matriculation Examination earlier will be considered.

/ PROCESSING FEE (Non-Refundable) Rs.100/-.
Fee is to be paid through ONLINE MODE. Ne fee is required to be paid by
SC/ST/PwBD/Women candidates
