Appointment of Chairperson and other members for District Mental Health
Review Boards
State Mental Health Authority invites applications for appointment to the following
positions in the District Mental Health Review Board mentioned, from interested persons
possessing the requisite qualification as per Mental Healthcare Act, 2017 available at link.

(a) Chairperson: One at Salem: District Judges or officers of the State Judicial Service,
who are qualified to be appointed as District Judges or retired District Judges
(b) Members with medical qualification:
(i) Psychiatrist: 4 Numbers each one at – Chengalpattu, Salem, Karur, Thanjavur
(ii) Medical Practitioners: 13 Numbers each one at – Chennai, Chengalpattu, Vellore,
Villupuram, Salem, Erode, Tiruchirappalli, Ramanathapuram, Karur, Tirunelveli,
Coimbatore, Thanjavur, Madurai.
(c) Non-Official Member: One at Coimbatore: Persons with mental illness or care-givers
or persons representing organizations of persons with mental illness or care-givers or
non-governmental organizations working in the field of mental health.
Eligibility Conditions
(a) Should be an Indian National;
(b) Possesses qualification in the relevant subject / field
(c) Term of office and allowances: The Chairperson and other members of the Board shall
hold office for a term of five years or up to the age of seventy years, whichever is earlier
and shall be eligible for re-appointment for another term of five years up to the age of
seventy years whichever is earlier
(d) The appointment of chairperson and members of every Board shall be made by the
Chairperson of the State Mental Health Authority.
(e) The Chairperson is entitled to a consolidated monthly honorarium of Rs. 1 Lakh
(Rupees One Lakh Only)
(f) The honorarium for the psychiatrist and medical practitioner will be a maximum of
Rs. 50,000 pm for each and T.A as follows:
(i) The serving Medical Officers shall be paid monthly honorarium of Rs. 2,000.
(ii) In case of retired government doctor being nominated a monthly honorarium of
Rs. 50,000 pm + TA as per rule
(iii) In case of a person not belonging either of the above categories being nominated
Rs. 1,000/- per day + Sitting allowance + TA
(g) In respect of the other members, each member will be paid sitting allowance of
Rs. 1,000/- for maximum of 15 days and TA
